Hi! We’re Dave (aka Kegs) and Ell (aka Legs), and we really like BIG things. Luckily for us, Australia has plenty of them - we’ve got the Big Banana, the Big Prawn, two Big Ned Kellys, a Big Rock Lobster…the list goes on. But as much as we (and Australia) love big things, there’s one big thing we can all agree really sucks: the Big C. Cancer.
Cancer affects hundreds of thousands of Australians every year - not just those newly diagnosed or going through treatment, but their friends and families as well. The Cancer Council is Australia’s leading cancer charity: in 2017, they directed over $60 million in cancer research across Australia. They can’t do this without the support of the Australian community - and that’s where the Shitbox Rally comes in. Shitbox Rally is the largest community-led fundraiser for the state and territory Cancer Councils in Australia, raising over 14.7 million dollars for cancer research over the past nine years. In 2019 the fundraising goal is $2 million and here at Kegs N Legs, we’re supporting this goal by volunteering to drive a $1,000 car (aka a Shitbox) over 5000 kilometres from Perth to Sydney via that well-known big rock, Uluru. But we can’t do it without your help!
We can’t participate in the rally unless we fundraise a minimum of $5,000 - but we’re optimists, so we’re aiming to reach $10,000. Any donation you can give is greatly appreciated, and goes to a truly worthy cause. We’ll be updating the blog below as we go, so you can stay updated on the entire process from shitbox-shopping to (hopefully) crossing the finish line in Sydney on May 17th, 2019. Wish us luck!
Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,000, this year for the 10th year anniversary rally, over a 10 day across Australia endeavour to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
Fresh shitbox news from us here at Kegs N Legs: We have selected our theme song, which we will be playing loudly, repeatedly and obnoxiously over the course of the rally. Feel free to experience the magic yourselves!
Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.
Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.
Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.
Almost $15 million has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:
These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
